Team Go Walkabout on a recent outing to play crazy golf!

We’re delighted to be celebrating Go Walkabout’s 20th year in business, – as we were founded way back in the last millennium – October 1999, to be precise….here’s a few pictures over the years to show some of the fun that we’ve got up to – including boat races, cake sales, litter picks and escape rooms, to name but a few!

We started life in the small East Sussex town of Bexhill, East Sussex, and were the brainchild of local businessman and charity fundraiser Harold Lawrence, who spotted a gap in the  market for competitively-priced long-term travel away from the UK, and also, our specialist one-way emigration policies – to help people who were either relocating afresh to another country, or returning to the country that they originated from.

Our founder Harold Lawrence in the early days of Go Walkabout Travel Insurance , channeling his inner Aussie!

In those far-off days, quotes were mainly provided over the phone or by a conversation in the office, and policy documents were usually sent in the post or handed over in person- a far cry from nowadays, where the majority of people generate a quote and purchase online, and receive an email containing their policy documents!

Despite these changes, we still pride ourselves on offering the same great level of customer service that we always have, and for going the extra mile to offer flexible policies and to do our utmost to make the process of buying  travel insurance a simple and transparent one for our customers.

We’re now based just along the coast, in St.Leonards on Sea, and proudly offer a range of policies designed to cover a wide-range of travel plans.

We offer:

We’d like to offer our sincere thanks to all of our customers, many of them repeat customers who have returned to us, year after year. We really do appreciate your custom, and hope that we can continue to offer straightforward, fit-for-purpose cover – for the next 20 years, and beyond!

Enter our celebratory competition to win a £200 voucher for LastMinute.Com!

To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we’ve come up with a competition where you can win a fantastic £200 voucher to spend as you wish on the handy travel website Last – where you can find all the necessary ingredients to create your next trip away – pick from hotels, flights, the Eurostar, theatre trips, car hire and a wide-range of exciting experiences…..but please come back to us for your travel insurance!

All you need to do to enter our competition (where our winner will be picked at random) , is to enter a favourite photograph of a landmark or tourist attraction from anywhere around the world. This could be anything, ranging from an ancient monument to a spectacular cathedral, feat of engineering or interesting sculpture – we’d love to see your favourites that totally took your breath away when you saw them in real-life!

Here’s one of our personal ‘landmark’ pictures that we’ve snapped that fits the theme. The London Eye – which was formally opened on the 31st December 1999 (20 years ago this year!) therefore ties in well with our anniversary, and also the fact that it’s a central part of the spectacular annual New Year fireworks celebrations next to the Thames, in London.

Today, it is Europe’s tallest ‘cantilevered observation wheel’ and is the most popular paid-tourist attraction in the UK, with over 3.75 million visitors annually – pretty impressive longevity and functionality – even by our standards!

As a 20 year wedding anniversary is symbolised by the glorious green, Emerald gemstone, we’ve come up with an example itinerary of how you could spend a  2 day break for 2, in Dublin, on the Emerald isle, using if you win the £200 prize voucher – there’s even £11.35 change for a free walking tour tip, plus an iconic crisp sandwich! Unsurprisingly, your trip also  includes a visit to the fascinating and historic Guinness Storehouse, where you can enjoy a complimentary Guinness in the impressive rooftop bar, after taking a look around the many fascinating exhibits.

Here’s our example itinerary of how you could choose to spend the £200 voucher if you’re lucky enough to win, but you can obviously choose exactly whatever you wish to spend your vouchers on!
